The C-47 Skytrain, manufactured by Douglas Aircraft Company, was adapted from the civilian-use Douglas DC-3 for military use. This workhorse of an airplane was employed by many Allied nations during WWII for the transporting of armed forces, cargo, and for towing military gliders such as the CG-4.
